Rachel Holifield

The main focus of my practice is the idea of armour as a metal shell and playing on and exploring that idea through using unconventional materials and placement.

This springs from an interest in figurative work while llowing me to create a new take on a well trodden area. I like the idea of trying to skirt around the objectification of the figure while at the same time keeping the presence of the figure at the centre of my practice. I feel that though they are empty suits of armour the absence of a person creates a kind of negative figure with just a metal shell in evidence.
