Description here
Monumental sculptures are traditionally permanent objects which denote a deed or a person worthy of record; a memorial.
My work aims to challenge this concept by my choice of sculptural medium and subject matter. “Showing out” is a monument to ‘cool’, a concept which is highly subjective and somewhat fickle. Hence, the deliberate use of polystyrene as a sculpting material, instead of the more traditional bronze or marble, due to its lightweight and fragile nature. It is easily dented or chipped, mass produced and easily discarded. Much like the so called icons of ‘cool.’
