The bodies of work for the past year have been centred on the concept of deconstructing preconceptions regarding the interpretation of an image. The work has heavily involved the use of found imagery to illustrate a variety of purposes, ranging from the interpretation of a scene to the perception of individuals in the media. Graphical manipulation has played an integral role in highlighting and accentuating the key areas of viewer interaction within the finished image
I am keen on using found imagery as it can be viewed as a reputable source if it is taken from the media itself and will be acknowledged as such; when it is then manipulated it provides a much stronger impact as the viewer had previous exposure to it or something in the similar vein. Staged imagery would lack this impact and if I was to take it myself I could not guarantee results.
The reason for the use of graphic enhancement is to draw viewer in deeper by presenting them with an image that is out of the ordinary, prompting them to look again. Once the attention of the viewer has been gained, as the artist I am able to mould the interpretation to show the image in a different light. This enables me to project my own interpretation of the image to the viewer and showing them the picture as I want them to see it. I find this to be very interesting as art can be seen as being different things to different people, yet here I am trying to create a unified viewpoint leading to a conclusion that has already been formulated.
The subject matters that I am working with are generally representations of images that have finite conclusions already formed; I am at breaking these down and showing them in a new light, a light that I have provided.
I believe my most recent piece of art work sums up my ideas and projects the use of colour to bring the aspect of the image that I want the viewer to focus on to the forefront of the image, it essentially “numbs” the rest of the picture leaving it bland and not as interesting as it once was, but nevertheless the picture is still viewable. This will change the way the picture is seen and then analysed by the viewer and will lead them to think differently about it.
Whilst studying at Camberwell College of Art I have acquired numerous skills, perhaps the most useful have been centred around Photoshop and graphic design skills which I have used a great deal to produce a consist stream of effective images that depict my views on a range of subjects and transmit them through the medium of art.
