Through my series “Rootless” I am trying to show that living in the foreign country is not as easy as some would like to think and that often it turns out to be a real battle.

During my work on this project I have concentrated on Polish emigrants living rough in London. They came here in search of a better life but did not succeed. I have chosen to photograph them with their backs to the camera to emphasise their loneliness and isolation and to give them anonymity. People who used to have what we call a normal life, with family, home and work, now walk the streets aimlessly. They do not belong anywhere. They do not really care anymore where they come from or where they are going.
