Exploring themes of fragility in the context of the concept of home, my work seeks to question our assumptions about the stability of everyday structures, and our relationship to the unpredictable. ‘Managed Retreat’ is a film installation projected within a beach hut. It depicts a small hamlet on the Suffolk coast where half the houses have fallen into the sea due to coastal erosion. Loss, entropy and notions of value are recurrent themes. Like traditional landscape painting the film tries to both reflect the passing of time and to fix or preserve something that is continually changing.
