Rebecca Cowie
I work with clay, mostly porcelain, with the aim of pushing it to its limits. I question and reference the concepts of fragility and decomposition, in the context of the relentless cycle of nature. I am aware of the parallels which can be drawn between this and the transient and vulnerable state of our own existence. I am interested in constructing with different shapes and forms and am naturally drawn to the beauty and detail which I find in natural objects, particularly those which show the marks of time. I have set out to create a body of work which encapsulates my interest in the Japanese concept of wabi sabi, a beauty of things imperfect, impermanent and incomplete.
