‘Rich Tapestry’ (2009) Porcelain/Terra Sigillata/Smoke fired ceramic work incorporating steel framework.

The majority of my work involves self-reflective themes, working with any scale and sculptural techniques. I am drawn to the translucent qualities of porcelain clay and find this rewarding both in sculptural and thrown forms. I have a bias for a monochromatic palette and achieve this through a series of masking and smoke firing techniques. Firing clay in this way allows for a degree of spontaneity, which I find exciting and refreshing.

My work stems from the emotional journeys that my life has undertaken; these are portrayed within the clay in a series of abstract objects. I find clay responsive allowing me to therapeutically work via my hands through the chaos in my mind. My latest work fulfills a desire to reflect over the past years of my life. It has become my psychotherapy allowing transference of emotion into the abstract object. For me there should be a strong alignment between art and circumstances veiled in a degree of ambiguity.
