‘Talking Chairs’ made in Britain

I have made three iconic Robin Day polypropylene chairs out of concrete and stainless steel-rebar for social public seating as an acknowledgment to British design and to highlight the importance of manufacturing in Britain in the current economic climate.

The Polyprop is a fundamental chair eliciting memories of education, discussion and conversation. ‘Talking Chairs’, positioned in a way that encourages human interaction, is less restrictive than the traditional bench.

The chairs are a reversal of the original in terms of weight, manufacture and intended use, in that the concrete version is heavy, intended for small batch production, and for outdoor use.

The intended locatality of the chairs is Tredegar in Wales a small village where the first Robin Day ‘Polyprops’ were assembled.
